UP2 Presents: Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges
This week the crew tackles “Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges”.
While attending a diplomatic conference on Romulus, Bashir becomes an unwilling pawn of Section 31.
Bashir “working for section 31”, sporting a very nice looking dress uniform and Ross becomes a “Badmiral”.
Let us know what you think about this episode.
Hey guys!
Long time no see. Yeah, I’m much more comfortable just lurking in the shadows, like Section 31. However, I stepped into the light to greet you all when you started this podcast and I wanted to make sure that I did so again before it was over to offer you my congratulations. I’ve still been listening and enjoying all the episodes though, don’t you worry. It’s become part of my routine while on my way home. 🙂
So thanks to all of you for a great job on the podcast and the one suggestion I have for the final UP:ees is that you absolutely need to have an award for Smonskey for all that feedback-reading. He’s been at it for a while now and still going strong. I also expect a statistics extravaganza, but I suspect Smonskey’s already on it. 😀
Speaking of the fast approaching end of DS9. I was always quietly hoping that there would be a TNG-podcast with some subset of this crew, or even with some of the most eager commenters stepping in, just like when UP2 was launched. Keiran, I’m mainly looking at you. 😛
However, I seem to remember something about a future B5 podcast. Don’t sacrifice me to a tar-monster now, but I finally got around to watching B5 just a year ago and absolutely loved it. So I really look forward to that, if that is indeed the plan. Make sure to let us know.
Live long and prosper. I’ll be around. 😉
Ps. Speaking of amazing scifi-shows, I’m not sure if I’ve heard any of you mention The Expanse on air, but it’s without a doubt worth checking out. It really is a hidden gem, and it deserves much more appreciation than what it’s been getting. I highly recommend it, if anyone has managed to miss it.

LikeDislike1. Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges. People called Romanes they go the house?
2. I know there’s bound to be a lot of political manouvering in an alliance like this, but scheduling repairs and shore leave to suit it is a little short sighted, no? That should be based on need if you really want to win this war.
3. Garak calls this episode out right from the beginning. Spy on your allies while you can, they may not be allies forever. Especially in this instance that’s very true. We all know the Romulans will go back to their sneaky ways soon enough.
4. What is it with being a spy that makes you want to sneak into a bedroom and watch someone sleep? There are many things we don’t know about Sloan, but why he has such a weird fetish is one I’d like answered.
5. Did Bashir forget his brain this week? Why would you tell the Romulans about Section 31? Do you not want this alliance? Keep it quiet and think about the bigger picture. You know, the one you were thinking about with your other genetically enhanced friends when you wanted to surrender?
6. Admiral Ross loses all respect in this episode. I’m just not sure if it’s because he turns out to be yet another Badmiral, or if it’s because he can’t handle his Romulan Ale. Maybe it’s the fake medical emergency. What’s that? Your brain exploded? Or you’re fine now? The 24th century isn’t that good surely?
7. Apparently Praetor Niral is the same Niral we first met in TNG Unification. So clearly getting caught out by Spock and working with Sela didn’t hold him back. He still moved up in the world.
8. Section 31 doesn’t exist, it’s just Starfleet Intelligence. Is that true, or did Sloan just want the Romulans to think that?
9. How come “off the record” means taking off your comm badge? Do they things record everything you say? Are they like a Samsung TV? Or Alexa?
10. This episode seems to get ignored later on. There’s no outrage from the Romulans about Section 31, no hatred of Ross for being a Badmiral, no real anything actually. Are we sure this wasn’t another holosuite episode? Section 31 tried that once with Bashir, maybe they were testing him again?
There’s a lot about this episode that doesn’t make sense to me. I like the overall idea, but the execution just doesn’t seem to work. So I’ll be sitting on the fence with this one and going for a three out of five. It’s not bad, but it’s not jumping out at me either.
